Federal Home Loan Bank of Atlanta Reports Financial Results for Third Quarter 2013

ATLANTA, October 29, 2013 - Federal Home Loan Bank of Atlanta (the Bank) today released unaudited financial highlights for the quarter ended September 30, 2013. The Bank will announce full unaudited financial results in its Form 10-Q filing with the Securities and Exchange Commission, which is expected to be filed on or about November 8, 2013.

The Bank reported net income of approximately $71 million for the third quarter 2013, a decrease of approximately $5 million from net income of $76 million for the third quarter 2012. As of September 30, 2013, the Bank had total assets of approximately $112.1 billion, a decrease of approximately $11.6 billion, or 9.41 percent, from December 31, 2012. The Bank's advances were approximately $78.2 billion as of September 30, 2013, a decrease of approximately $9.3 billion from December 31, 2012.

The Bank's retained earnings balance was approximately $1.6 billion as of September 30, 2013, an increase of approximately $144 million, or 10.0 percent, from December 31, 2012. Capital stock declined from $4.9 billion as of December 31, 2012, to approximately $4.4 billion as of September 30, 2013.

The Bank's third quarter 2013 performance resulted in an annualized return on equity (ROE) of 4.50 percent as compared to 5.04 percent for the third quarter of 2012. The ROE spread to average three-month LIBOR decreased to 424 basis points for the third quarter of 2013, compared to 461 basis points for the third quarter of 2012. The Bank continues to meet its regulatory capital requirements.
